Κώδικας χαρακτήρων ASCII
To όνομα του κώδικα ASCII προέρχεται από τα αρχικά των αγγλικών λέξεων American Standard Code for Information Ιnterchange.
Ο πίνακας ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange, Αμερικανικός Πρότυπος Κώδικας για την Ανταλλαγή Πληροφοριών) είναι ένας πίνακας απεικόνισης συμβόλων και χαρακτήρων που χρησιμοποιούνται στην επιστήμη των υπολογιστών. Οι χαρακτήρες αυτοί μπορεί να είναι τόσο εκτυπώσιμοι όσο και μη εκτυπώσιμοι.
Οι πρώτες 32 θέσεις δεσμεύονται για χαρακτήρες διαφυγής (escape character).
0-31 χαρακτήρες ελέγχου,
32-63 αριθμούς, κενά, σημεία στίξης, σύμβολα πράξεων,
64-95 κεφαλαία λατινικά γράμματα και ειδικά σύμβολα,
96-127 πεζά λατινικά γράμματα και ειδικά σύμβολα.
